In a method of producing a wooden main frame with encircling glass- retaining strip, each leg of the main frame is profiled in fixed connection with the frame leg, allocated to it, of the glass-retaining strip from an unworked piece of squared timber, the glass-retaining strip is separated to the greatest extent from the allocated frame leg and then releasably fastened again to the same spot of the frame leg, and the frame legs with their releasably fastened glass-retaining strips are firmly joined together to form a closed frame in such a way that the frame formed from the glass-retaining strips can be removed as a unit from the main frame. Each leg of the main frame with allocated glass-retaining strip is advantageously laminated from three squared-timber sections of the same thickness, of which a lateral squared-timber section projects beyond the squared-timber section adjacent to it, and the glass- retaining strip is formed by cutting off the projecting squared-timber section. In the process, the glass-retaining strip is separated from the leg of the main frame while leaving a small wooden connecting sliver and is then fastened again in a spot-like manner under applied pressure to the leg of the main frame by means of glue drops, in the course of which the wooden sliver between glass-retaining strip and leg of the main frame tears.
