PURPOSE:To provide a protective film having excellent adhesion to a magnetic recording medium, more particularly a magnetic disk and a small coefft. of friction and to improve durability by forming a heat insulating film layer having plural fine pores on a film of a magnetic oxide or ferromagnetic metal formed on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic recording layer 2 consisting of the magnetic oxide or ferromagnetic metallic film is formed on a substrate 1 consisting of Al (alloy), etc. and thereafter an Al layer is formed on the layer 2 by a vacuum deposition method, sputtering method, etc. then the surface is oxidized by an anodic oxidation treatment to form the protective layer 3 having the plural fine pores 4 on the surface 3a is formed. A lubricating agent is coated on the surface 3a to impregnate the lubricating agent into the pores 4. The magnetic disk or the like having high running stability and good durability without exfoliation of the layer 3 from the layer 2, etc. is thus obtd. by holding the lubricating agent into the pores 4 of the aluminum oxide film having heat insulating property and high hardness.
