Laevorotatory and dextrorotatory antipodes of the racemate of 5- chloro-6-(3-chlorobenzenesulphonyl)-1,3-benzodioxole-2-carboxylic acid of the formula I and their salts with bases and lower alkyl esters of the racemate, and process for the preparation of the above compounds and their salts and pharmaceutical compositions containing them. The substances have diuretic and additional uricosuric and in some cases also hypolipidaemic activities and can be used, preferably in the form of appropriate pharmaceutical compositions, for the treatment of oedemas, hypertension and in some cases also as hypolipidaemics.
