The invention allows the construction of a hanging shelf unit which combines light weight, stability and floor space. For this purpose, bars are mounted on the ceiling in a modular construction, which bars have a horizontal plate in the region of the lower end, against which plate a glass plate is stabilised by a horizontal screwing surface in such a way that fluctuations are prevented. The system can be extended as desired and can be connected to further units both horizontally and vertically.
