PURPOSE:To reduce greatly the size of a cassette tape recorder when no tape cassette is loaded by using a tape recorder main body having no cassette cover and a wire type guard which is fixed to the tape recorder main body to secure a contact with the upper surface of a tape cassette when it is loaded. CONSTITUTION:A tape cassette main body 11 contains no cover, and a tape cassette is held with a wire type guard 16. Thus the size of the main body 11 can be reduced less than that of the tape cassette when it is loaded. Furthermore the tape cassette can be protected when it is loaded, and the drop-off of the tape cassette can be avoided. In addition both upper and side faces of the tape cassette are opened to utilize an effect appealing for the excellent external appearance with a cassette tape, a see-through tape, etc.
