NEW MATERIAL:Pyridone azo compounds of formula I , wherein A is a phenyl group which may be substituted with alkyl, alkoxy, hydroxy, hydroxyalkyl, trifluoro-methyl, nitro or halogen; B is alkylene which may be substituted with alkoxyalkyl or allyloxyalkyl, or a bivalent group of formula III (wherein X is O, S, phenylene, cyclohexylene). USE:Dyes (yellow) for thermal transfer recording. The dyes have characteristics such that (a) they are not thermally decomposed under thermal recording head operating conditions, (b) they give preferred tints in color reproduction and (c) they are stable against light, moisture, chemicals, etc. PREPARATION:The compd. of formula IV is dissolved in an aq. sodium acetate soln. and a diazo soln. of aniline is added thereto. The mixture is reacted to obtain the pyridone azo compd. of formula V. |
