The converter-controlled multi-phase rotating-field machine having contact bearings having the possibility to change, on the DC side, identical partial winding systems (W1 to W4), which are isolated from one another in DC terms, over from parallel connection to series connection, has, in addition to the converter bridges (I to IV) for the individual partial winding systems, additional converters (Z12 to Z34), which are still connected between in each case two said partial winding systems and are controlled for the series connection of the partial winding systems in the same rhythm as the valves, on the output side and input side respectively (through which no current then flows), of the adjacent converter bridges when connected in parallel. <IMAGE>
