PURPOSE:To lower the specific fuel consumption of an engine and to purify the exhaust gas of the same, by making air-fuel mixture locally rich by disposing a high-voltage electrode having the same polarity as the body earth in the vicinity of a fuel outlet port of an intake passage, and disposing an electrode having an inverse polarity in the vicinity of an ignition plug in a cylinder. CONSTITUTION:A main nozzle 2 of a carburetor 1 is connected a high-voltage power source 4 in the manner that it is insulated from the surroundings, and the nozzle 2 is made to have the same polarity (for instance, negative) as the body earth. Further, an electrode 8 insulated from a cylinder head 9 and connected to a power source 10 is disposed around an ignition plug 7 in a combustion chamber 6 of an engine 5, and the electrode 8 is made to have an inverse polarity (for instance, positive) to that of the body earth. With such an arrangement, fuel particles passing through the inside of the nozzle 2 is electrified negatively and attracted to the electrode 8, so that rich air-fuel mixture is formed in the vicinity of the ignition plug 7 and ignition of mixture is facilitated. Thus, since stratified combustion of fuel is attained easily, it is enabled to lower the specific fuel consumption of an engine and to purify the exhaust gas of the same. |
