A network for voice and/or data transmission has a coaxial wire forming a multi-channel transmission line 1 to which are connected a number of separate stations 2, each incorporating a telephone 3 enabling a user to link with that of another station as required. Each station also has a channel scanner 4 to determine whether a signal is being transmitted on each available channel, a monitor 5 to inspect any detected signals for codes identifying the intended recipient station(s) and a transmitting section 6 to send out a signal with a code identifying the intended recipient. The available channels are split up into predetermined pairs for simultaneous connection between stations to enable two-way conversation. |
