With the altimeter according to the present invention, all the differences in altitude of a preselected sign, that is to say all the positive or all the negative changes over a specific time period are added up and displayed. Such an integrating altimeter can be used for example by mountaineering and skiing enthusiasts in order to determine in an uncomplicated manner the overall ascent or descent which has been achieved during a specific time period.
