In conventional closed cabinets for base speakers, accurate i.f. reproduction is achieved by using a sound-absorbent filling. The present cabinet absorbs the i.f. sound by connecting ti into movement of suspended moards. The cabinet has thick walls with apertures for the treble (2) and bass (3) speaker units. Panel (4) in the lid supports fice identical hardboard panels (5), which are not in contact with the side walls or base of the cabinet The panels are 3 to 5 mm thick and pierced by many small holes. If the boards are used in a bass.reflex cabinet instead of a closed one, the absorption is frequency-selective.
