PURPOSE:To perform accurate address setting by generating a prescribed position signal for determining the recording or readout position of a head, and initializing a recording position setting means with said prescribed position signal. CONSTITUTION:When an electric power source is turned on, a sequence controller 10 checks whether an HP signal is present (''H'') or not (''L'') so as to know which side of an HP detection position the head 3 is at, and moves the head 3 forward until the HP signal is ceased (step 3) when the HP signal is present. When the HP signal is absent, the head 3 is moved backward to the right side of the HP detection position to detect the present of HP, and moved forward. The falling edge of the HP signal obtained by said operation is used to reset an address counter 8. Further, this resetting operation is performed to output an HP inhibition signal from the controller 10 to a gate 12, and the address counter is inhibited from being reset thereafter. |
