PURPOSE:To simplify temperature control at the time of sealing, to allow low m.p. metal to flow into a sealing part and to produce a highly reliable optical fiber feedthrough by inserting optical fiber cables into holes of a low m.p. metallic layer and melting the low m.p. metallic layer. CONSTITUTION:Dummy cores 7 having the same outer diameters as optical fiber are inserted into the penetration holes of a metallic body 6 made of a ''Kovar'' material or the like. Under said state, the metallic body 6 is set up in a tool 8, the whole is heated and solder 9 is made to flow into the metallic body 6. After setting the solder 9, the tool 8 is removed, excessive solder is removed and the dummy cores 7 are pulled out. Consequently, solder layers 10 engaged with the outer diameters of the optical fibers 11 fixedly adhered to the inwalls of the penetration holes of the metallic body 6 are formed. Subsequently, the optical fiber cables 11 are inserted into the solder layers 10 and a heater chip 12 is allowed to contact with the metallic body 6 to heat the metallic body 6, so that the solder layers 10 are melted and the metallic body 6 is sealed. In this case, heat conduction between the metallic body 6 and the solder layers 10 which are tightly adhered is fixed and time required for heat melting is also fixed. |
