PURPOSE:To take a tracking servo whose constitution is simple and good, by comparing a level of a tracking pilot signal in which a different kind of frequency is recorded successively and repeatedly in adjacent tracks extending over the same width as a track pitch on the head of each video track, and controlling it so as to become a fixed relation. CONSTITUTION:When recording a video signal, a magnetic head 2 is positioned so as to step over tracks 1a, 1b, tracking pilot signals f1, f2 are reproduced by setting this magnetic head 2 to a reproducing mode, and the magnetic head 2 is controlled by comparing both levels. When both become a fixed relation and the magnetic head 2 is positioned at a normal position, the magnetic head 2 is set to a recording mode and the video signal is recorded. When reproducing the video signal, too, in the same way as the recording time, the magnetic head 2 is positioned so as to step over the tracks 1a, 1b, the tracking pilot signals f1, f2 are reproduced by setting this magnetic head 2 to the reproducing mode, the tracking servo is taken in the same state as the recording time, and subsequently, the video signal recorded in a video track 1c is reproduced. |
