PURPOSE:To perform stably continuous casting while preventing generation of breakout by connecting a means for controlling the molten metal level in a casting mold and a means for predicting the breakout as well as a drawing means. CONSTITUTION:A load cell 21 attached to a main rod 20 produces an output in accordance with the oscillating resistance of a casting mold 1. When the output from the cell 21 decreases owing to the rupture, etc. of a billet 4, the breakout is predicted. Then the drawing of the billet 4 is stopped or decelerated and a stopper driver 28 is actuated to descend a stopper 8, thereby limiting the charging amt. of a molten metal 3 and preventing generation of the breakout. The level in the molten metal 3 in the mold 1 is measured with a device 26 for measuring the molten metal level and is inputted to a circuit 29 for controlling the molten metal level, thereby adjusting finely the height of the stopper 8. |
