In the region of its greatest width (a), the protective helmet (1) has an air guiding part (6) which extends transversely to the incoming flow direction (c) and consists of three portions, namely a helmet dome portion (6') and two helmet side portions (6"), and is arranged at the same distance (b) from the helmet shell surface (10'). In this case, the helmet dome portion (6') is mounted at its two end portions on two bearing journals (7) so as to be swivellable and arrestable about a transverse axis, whereas a helmet side portion (6") adjoins the free ends of the helmet dome portion (6') in each case. Said helmet side portions are rigidly connected to the helmet shell (10) in each case via spacer elements (9). <IMAGE>
