A device for supporting the back area of standing persons has a support surface (1) which extends upwards with spacing from the standing surface (2), at least from the height of the buttocks of the standing person, and is inclined upwards and rearwards relative to the vertical plane. The support surface (1) for the back part expediently encloses an essentially right angle with the standing surface (2) for the feet. The support surface (1) and standing surface (2) can be connected to one another via a frame (3) which can also be arranged to stand freely in the room. However, the support surface (1) can be constructed separately from the standing surface (2) and be arranged on a wall, for example. In this case, it is possible for the support surface (1) to be provided on a frame (3') attached to the wall, but the support surface (2) can also be formed by a corresponding shaping of part of the wall surface. <IMAGE>
