PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having improved wear resistance without deterioration surface smoothness and having an excellent electromagnetic converting characteristic and durability by providing a magnetic layer incorporated with non-magnetic powder subjected to a surface treatment by an aliphat. fatty acid (salt), etc. to impart improved dispersibility. CONSTITUTION:Finely divided powder of Al2O3 and TiO2 of >=1mu is added to a fatty acid such as myristic acid, oleic acid or the like, or a soln. of their Sn, Zn salt or ester to deposit the compd. thereof at about 0.01-1wt% on the surface of the finely divided powder. A magnetic coating liquid prepd. by dispersing 0.5-10wt% such finely divided powder together with magnetic powder in a soln. of a binder such as a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate-PVA copolymer or urethane elastomer is prepd. The coating liquid is coated on a non-magnetic base, whereby a magnetic layer is formed. A magnetic recording medium having a high still characteristic and video S/N ratio is thus obtd. |
