1293678 Continuous casting SCHLOEMANN AG 6 Aug 1970 [6 Aug 1969] 37967/70 Heading B3F Molten metal (from the spout 27 of a tundish 26) is finally solidified into a strip between a casting roll 16 and a band 6 passed continuously over support rollers 4, 5, the edges of the band 6 contacting the edges of two parallel vertical rings 10 (11) so that a depression (in which the molten metal is received and largely frozen) is created and dammed at the edges of the band by the rings. The cast strip is withdrawn by way of a guide 28. Excess melt can rise in the gaps between the ends of the casting roll 16 and the inner sides of the rings 10 (11). The flash so formed is removed later. Vertical flanges (12) on the rings run in grooves at the ends of the support rolls 4, 5 which carry the rings. The flanges also run in grooves in upper guide rolls 14, 15. Coolant.is passed through the rolls 4, 5 and 16 and there are jets for spraying the band 6. The casting roll 16 is mounted on pivoted arms 19, 20 for adjustment to determine the strip thickness. The band 6 is tensioned by an adjustable roll 7. |
