To prevent sulphur emission in a combustion process (6), a mixture consisting of fine granular coal and a sulphur-binding material, for example quicklime, is fed to the process, the quantity of the quicklime being such that a part of the sulphur introduced with the coal into the combustion process can be bound as sulphate. The remaining sulphur of the coal is intercepted in a conventional flue gas desulphurisation device (9).
