The invention relates to an internal combustion engine with a piston which is guided in a cylinder and the reciprocating motion of which is transmitted via a connecting rod to a crankshaft, and with a gearwheel which is rotatably mounted on the crankshaft and engages in a fixed toothing of annular design surrounding the crankshaft, the gearwheel being mounted on the crankshaft eccentrically to the axis of rotation of the said crankshaft, and one end of the connecting rod being articulated on the gearwheel eccentrically to the axis of rotation of the latter. An internal combustion engine of this kind is the subject-matter of the main patent... (Patent Application P 3109005.2). The novel idea on which the invention is based consists, in an internal combustion engine of this kind, in the fact that the gearwheel has an effective diameter which is half as great as the effective diameter of the fixed toothing.
