PURPOSE:To avoid the application of excessive compressive loads on a spindle even when subjected to the changes in the temperatures of water and air by a method in which plural unit spindles are added to a given length through Bellevill springs. CONSTITUTION:In an opening and closing device for a sluice in which a gate 5 closing through a water-tight material 6 on the bottom of the sluice is connected to the lower end of spindles 3 hung down by an elevator 2, each unit spindle 3' for plurally split spindles 3 is designed to be vertically extended or contracted by a Belleville spring 12 and connected by a coupler 7 capable of transmitting rotation forces. While the sluice is closed by lowering the gate 5 until the water-tight material 6 comes into contact with the bottom by operating the elevator 2, when the spindles 3 are extended or contracted by changes in the temperature of water, the spindle 3' is expanded and elongated but the upper and lower connecting levers 9 go into the coupler 7 to compress the Belleville spring 12. By this, most of compressive loads to the gate 5 are absorbed by the compression of the Belleville spring 12. |
