PURPOSE:To perform optimum toner replenishment for various originals by replenishing toner automatically and controlling toner density on the basis of a value which varies at a different rate from the rate of variation in the density difference between the standard density of a developer and actual toner density. CONSTITUTION:A signal corresponding to a reference density plate 1 or the density of the developer 5 is detected by a detection part 9, amplified by an amplifier 10, and inputted to an A/D converter 11 after level adjustment. The converted signal is inputted through an input port 12 to a CPU13 to be processed. The CPU13 outputs a replenishment signal P through an output port 13 for a time obtained by the arithmetic processing to drive a toner hopper motor 24 through a driver 17, carrying out toner replenishment for a specific time. A signal A showing that development is in process and a signal B that the development is not in process are inputted to the port 12 and the CPU13 calculates the replenishing amount of toner from a value obtained by multiplying the difference between the standard density of the developer and actual toner density by a coefficient as a function of the density difference to perform optimum toner density control over various originals. |
