Coated high strength two-phase steel sheet is produced from a steel contg. 1.6-3% Mn + Cr, by (i) heating between the A1 and A3 temps., (ii) interrupting the subsequent cooling at between the A1 temp. and 400 deg.C and carrying out surface prepn. and coating of the sheet, and then (iii) cooling to ambient temp. Pref. cooling is interrupted at 400-600 deg.C for max. 10 (pref.5) mins. The method is esp. useful in the prodn. of hot dip galvanised, cold rolled, two-phase steel sheet for automobile bodies. By maintaining the Mn + Cr content within the above range, the cooling stage of a continuous annealing process can be interrupted for effecting hot dip coating without loss of the two-phase structure of the steel.
|
