The invention concerns a method for detection of the ignition of countermeasures torches which are shot out from aeroplanes. The detection occurs with high background suppression and by means of a filter unit, a detector unit, and a logic unit. According to the invention, the detection is made to occur by reception of radiation with very low atmospheric transmission, preferably within one or more of the wavelength bands 200- 280 nm, 2.55-2.80 um, 4.15-4.30 um or 5.60-7.00 um, for the purpose of suppressing the quickly varying background radiation, in combination with sensing of the remaining background radiation until the time just prior to shooting out the torch, which detected background radiation level is made to be a reference level for the signal detected after shooting out the torch. If no approved ignition signal is received within a prescribed time after shooting out a torch, a new torch is dropped. <IMAGE> |
