PURPOSE:In nitrosating a water suspension of 2-naphthol with sodium nitrite under acidic conditions, to obtain the titled compound with reducing extremely the viscosity of the suspension, by adding a surface active agent to the reaction system. CONSTITUTION:A water suspension of 2-naphthol is nitrosated with sodium nitrite under acidic conditions. In the reaction, 0.1-5wt%, preferably 0.5-2wt% based on raw material 2-naphthol of a surface active agent (e.g., nonionic surface active agent such as polyoxyethylene alkyl ether, etc., anionic surface active agent such as polyoxyethylene alkyl sulfuric ester, etc.) exists, and the reaction is carried out to give 1-nitroso-2-naphthol. The addition of the surface active agent is effective for suppressing foaming, and can grow or agglomerate particles of 1-nitroso-2-naphthol. |
