PURPOSE:To prevent the failure of furnace bottom structures owing to thermal expansion of refractories and the leakage of gases in the furnaces to the outside in the bottom part of a shell type blast furnace having furnace bottom plates by providing an expansion joint between a furnace body shell or shell base ring and a furnace bottom plate. CONSTITUTION:When large force acts upon a shell 1 owing to thermal expansion of furnace bottom refractories and the shell 1 displaces like broken lines, relative displacements are generated between the shell 1 and a furnace bottom plate 2. Here, if an expansion joint 13 having expanding and contracting functions is installed between the shell 1 and the bottom plate 2, the joint 13 deforms freely according to the displacement of the shell 1. Since the shell 1 and the plate 2 are joined by the joint 13 even after thermal expansion of the refractory bricks, the leakage of the gases in the furnace to the outside is obviated. |
