<p>The invention relates to new heterocyclic compounds containing a C-acetyl group and a process for their preparation. More particularly, the invention concerns new compounds of the formula (III). <IMAGE> in which R is a protecting group suitable for temporary protection of amines and amides or an aryl group, and Z is alkyl. The compounds are intermediates in the preparation of penicillins.</p>
