Process and press for producing multilayered compacts, in particular ceramic tiles or slabs. The invention is intended to permit the production of such compacts by all-inclusive working in a press in one operation. This object is achieved by the entire production operation taking place, as Fig. 1 shows, in a press (4) by filling with the materials as dry powder in the following sequence: a) Using a filling slide (1), the powder is introduced as lower surface layer in a layer height corresponding to the thickness of the largest particle of this powder or slightly above. b) Using a filling slide (2), a layer of a core material is introduced in a layer thin enough to avoid shifting of the lower surface layer or mixing with the same. c) Using the same filling slide (2), a further layer of the core material is introduced in a height corresponding to the desired thickness of the compact. d) Using a filling slide (3), the powder of an upper surface layer is introduced in the thickness of the largest particle of this powder or slightly above. This is followed by the pressing operation of all the layers, whereupon the finished compact is removed by a vacuum lifter (8) once the mould (15) has been lowered out of the press. <IMAGE>
