The roof (1) of a driver's compartment has a hatch opening whose end is reinforced by a hatch frame (2). The hatch opening has a hatch cover (3) which can be swivelled upwards from the hatch frame (2) about a horizontal shaft (4). At least one side arm (5) extends downwards from the hatch cover (3) and bears on its free end a bolt (6) which is parallel to the horizontal shaft (4). A leaf spring (8) which is hinged to the hatch frame (2) between the horizontal shaft (4) and the side arm (5) holds the bolt (6) in an eye (9) which can be opened resiliently. The spring (8) forms between its hinge point (7) and the eye (9) a pretensioned curve which is flattened when the hatch cover (3) is swivelled upwards as far as a leaf spring stop (11). With a simple structure and little technical complexity, it is possible for the roof hatch to opened both into an oblique ventilation position and also into a fully folded over position which clears the roof hatch. <IMAGE>
