In a locking device for a motor-vehicle door, a locking knob is provided on the inside of the vehicle, is assigned an essentially axially displaceable actuating rod leading to a door lock and can be actuated by means of this actuating rod. The locking knob allows the actuating rod to be displaced into a blocking position, by means of which the door lock can be locked. A release of the door lock from the blocking position is normally impossible simply by lifting the locking knob. However, in one embodiment of the invention, locking means are provided between the knob and actuating rod, so that the door lock can also be released from inside the vehicle by an authorised person by lifting the knob.
