PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-solid coating composition which forms a coating film excellent in finished appearance, hardness, and resistances to acid rain and scratch; and a method for forming a multilayer coating film using the same. SOLUTION: This coating composition contains (A) a compound which is a reaction product of a carboxylic compound and an epoxy compound and has a wt. average mol.wt. of 1,000 or lower and a hydroxy value of 200-800, (B) a hydroxylated resin having a wt. average mol.wt. of 500-6,000 and a hydroxy value of 50-600, (C) a polyisocyanate compound, and (D) a melamine resin. The multilayer coating film comprises at least one colored coating film layer and at least one clear coating film layer, provided that the uppermost clear coating film layer is formed from the coating composition.
