Surgically implantable matrix with a viral vector dried onto it for controlled release of recombinant parvovirus vectors

A method of delivering a recombinant parvovirus vector that comprises a heterologous nucleic acid to a cell comprises contacting (when not present in a human) with a dried recombinant parvovirus vector on a surgically implantable matrix. A recombinant adeno-associated virus ( rAAV ) vector comprising a heterologous nucleic acid can be stored by drying the vector prior to storage at room temperature or onto a surgically implantable matrix prior to the storage. A surgically implantable matrix with a recombinant parvovirus vector dried onto the matrix can be used for treating a disease via gene therapy. Preferably the vector is a recombinant adenovirus vector (rAVV) and the matrix is an implantable device, suture material, catgut, PTFE, a tissue scaffold or a bone graft substitute.
