The title compd.(I)' useful as photostabilizers and ployolefin reformers, Lubricating oil additives, Was prepd. by the reaction of 4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)phenol and S2CI2 at-10-40≦̸C in the presence of sulfating agent. Thus, 41.2 g 4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl) phenol in 150 ml n-hexane was treated with 11.3 g S2CI2 at 0-10≦̸C for l hr, and the reaction products were stirred for l hr to give 40.4 g I(m.p. 135-136≦̸C).
