<p>Aq. pastes or sludges of low valency metal oxides, esp. manganese and iron oxides, are dried and oxidised by metering the pastes into a closed chamber in which they are subjected to a swirling oxidising gas stream, pref. a stream of air, carbon dioxide, combustion gases or mixts. having an entry temp. of 250-700 (pref. 300-600) deg. C and an exit temp. of 100-200 (pref. 120-160) deg. C. The process is useful for treating wet scrubbing sludges and aq. pastes formed in the prepn. of manganese and iron oxides used in the prodn. of oxide ceramics for electronic components. A metal oxide powder, having a uniform and max. degree of oxidn., is produced rapidly and economically.</p> |
