The mechanism prepares the mixture of straw, chaff and grain arriving in a combine harvester, having a device transporting it over sieves, and a cleaning fan. Between the device (4) and the sieves (5) are an impeller for the mixture, and a rotary drum (8) with holes, inside which is a fan (9) extracting the lightweight ingredients from the mixture. There can be a chamber forming an airtight joint against the outside of the drum, collecting these ingredients and discharging them to the outside, typically by means of an internal auger.
