TEXTILE HAVING STAIN RESISTANCE

Synthetic polyamide textile substrates coated with a modified sulponated phenol formaldehyde polycondensate contg. (a) approx. 10- 25% sulponate gps. and 90-75% sulphone gps. (b) partially acylated or etherified OH gps. sufficient to inhibit yellowing of the polycondensate but insufficient to affect the stain-resistance of the substrate. pref. the OH gps. have been acylated with acetic anhydride or ethyl chloroformate or etherified with dimethylsulpate or chloroacetic acid. The modified sulphonated PF polycondensate is prepd. by (i) acylating or etherifying at a PH of 7-13 to give a water insoluble product (ii) sepg. the water insoluble product from the aq. layer (iii) heating (iv) dissolving in an OH-contg. cpd., esp. ethylene glycol.
