<p>To a microfiche reader comprising an illumination system (1) sending, via a condenser (3), a light beam onto the microfiche (4) clamped by two transparent carrier plates (5, 6), the light information emanating from the microfiche (4) then being transmitted to a visual display system (V), the invention consists in adding a transparent plate (7), parallel to the plates (5, 6) and carrying reference symbols, the referencing of the information carried on the microfiche (4) taking place by virtue of two successive checkouts, one revealing the referencing symbols, the other revealing the corresponding information from the microfiche (4).
