PURPOSE:To obtain a friction material having improved wear resistance in a low temperature region and reduced lowering of friction coefficient in a high temperature region, by having activated carbon contained in a friction material containing a thermosetting binder, an iron fiber reinforcement material, a friction adjusting agent, etc. CONSTITUTION:In a friction material containing a thermosetting binder, an iron fiber reinforcement material, a friction adjusting agent and other additives, 1- 20wt% activated carbon, based on the total weight of the friction material, is further added. as an additive. The form of activated carbon is of two types of granular carbon and powder carbon. It is preferable to use ground activated carbon, and the carbon having a size of about 20-40 mesh is added and stirred to use. It is preferable to use a petroleum pitch type carbon having a high decomposition temperature as activated carbon. |
