PURPOSE:To obtain the title enzyme inhibitor useful for preventing and treating various diseases such as alopecia, acne, prostatic hypertrophy, etc., resulting from dihydrotestosterone, having high safety, comprising pyrroloquinolinequinone and a derivative thereof as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:An inhibitor of testosterone-5alpha-reductase which comprises a compound shown by the formula (X<1>-X<3> are OR' or NR''R''; R and R'-R'' are alkyl, alkenyl, aryl or alkyl which may be replaced and further R' is alkali metal or 1/2 alkaline earth metal) as an active ingredient and effective for preventing and treating the above-mentioned diseases because the inhibitor inhibits enzymatic action of testosterone-5alpha-reductase participating in conversion route from testosterone to hydrotestosterone and suppresses excess formation of dihydrotestosterone. Since the inhibitor is effective by internal administration or by external use, any preparation such as drugs, quasi-drugs, cosmetics, etc., may be utilized. |
