The compressor has a pair of co-operating rotors (20,22) with parallel rotation axes and dissimilar asymmetric lobed configurations. The rotor (22) has a cross-sectional profile that is greater in area than that of the other rotor and comprises a sector (11) of radius (R), which is somewhat greater than the radius (r) of the outer edge of a discharge port (44). Balancing plugs (100) may be lodged in the rotors. Strips of, e.g. a lead-tinalloy may be attached to the rotor (22) and the inner peripheral wall of the casing to facilitate 'lapping-in' of the rotors. Sealing strips may of the same material may also be attached to the casing end-walls.
