Automatic office machine print mechanism edge control - enables manual setting by using edge control elements with attached sensors

The arrangement is for controlling edge positioning of an office machine print mechanism and automatically determines the distance of the edge, which is adjustable using an edge control element (4,5), and feeds corresp. data to the control unit (1). It enables manual edge setting without the unit being affected by a print head search process and without the interruption of smooth operation. The edge position distance data is acquired by signal pick-offs (9,10) attached to the edge control elements (4,5) and operating in conjunction with a signal transducer path (11) consisting of a resistive path connected to a voltage source. The pick-offs consist of sliding contacts which are moved along the transducer path when the edge control elements are repositioned. The resistive path may be a wire or a track of material on an insulating base.
