A filter for removing carbon from the exhaust flow of an internal- combustion engine comprises a housing 1 with inlet and outlet connections 2 and 3 enclosing a plurality of spaced, parallel, supporting tubes 4 which are provided with through-openings and which the exhaust flow enters in a radial direction and leaves in an axial direction, which tubes are wound with yarn of spun fibres of silicon dioxide, suitably in a criss-cross winding. The yarn may be impregnated with an inorganically based temperature- resistant agent. The tubes may be secured at one end in the housing and provided with radially outwardly directed peripheral formations such as corrugations and/or made telescopic. <IMAGE> |
