The scarifier has a wheel set (1, 2) guided by means of the handle (11) and rolling on the ground. Scarifying knives (5) rotate on the driven knife shaft (4) connecting the two wheels (1, 2), there being provided a gear (13, 14) which changes the rotational speed of the scarifying knives in relation to the driving wheel (1), and furthermore each scarifying knife (5) consisting of a rectangular steel blade with a profiled centre bore (15). This centre bore (15) serves for the passage of the knife shaft (4). The two outer ends of each steel blade are made dovetail-shaped, and their short outer sides are bent in the direction of the centre, starting from one corner, and are shaped as backed-off bent cutting edges (16, 17). The depth of penetration of the scarifying knives (5) into the ground can be varied by adjusting the height of pressure rollers (9). A freewheel guarantees that the scarifying knives (5) are stationary during the backward movement of the scarifier, and therefore scarifying can also be carried out in corners and in places of difficult access on the surface to be worked. <IMAGE>
