A disc refiner for lignocellulosic material, with at least one fixed disc and at least one rotating grinding disc mounted on a through shaft housed in bearings on either side of the machine, has at least one screw conveyor above, alongside or below the shaft, feeding chipped material through a non-central aperture in the fixed disc. The upper part of the opening surrounding the shaft serves as a separate exhaust channel for the steam generated during the grinding operation. The outgoing steam is kept apart from the ingoing material by having a separate, vertical exhaust conduit alongside the shaft down which the chips are fed, or the feed material may be supplied horizontally by additional screw conveyors. Arrangement is less complicated than an axial feed for the chipped material. It prevents the exhausting steam from hindering or blocking the feed material by having to escape along the same conduit as, and in the opposite direction to, the feed flow. |
