PURPOSE:To mass-produce 3-hydroxy-solavetivone readily, by inoculating a leaf of a plant of Nicotiana tabacum with a plant virus, and extracting the leaf with an organic solvent after the lapse of a given time. CONSTITUTION:A leaf of a growing plant of Nicotiana tabacum is inoculated with a plant virus, collected after the lapse of a given time, and extracted with an organic solvent to separate and collect 3-hydroxy-solavetivone having the structure of formula I. Nicotiana tabacum cultivar KY-57 of the Hurley type or Nicotiana tabacum cultivar Samsun-NN of the Oriental type may be cited as the plant of Nicotiana tabacum. Tobacco-mosaic virus or tobacco necrosis virus may be used as the plant virus. The leaf after inoculation with the plant virus is frozen at about -20 deg.C or below and then extracted with the organic solvent in an amount of 5 times or more that of the leaf.
