<p>The control circuit is mounted in the starter motor power line from the ignition switch (4,10,3,8) and has five separate inputs. These are taken from: a gear selection sensor (20), a clutch sensor (21), an accelerator pedal operation sensor (22), a stop-start input (25) and an engine temperature sensor, e.g. a thermistor, (24). The first three inputs feed an AND gate (25) which also receives an input from a second AND gate (27) fed by the remaining two inputs. Further logic circuitry is supported by a memory (36) and a delay unit (37). Solid state logic may be replaced by three relays and five switches. The temperature sensor activates a relay which allows the system to perform its automatic cut-out function only when the engine is above a predetermined temperature. This ensures that the engine will not be stopped if a restart is too energy consuming, i.e. when the engine is cold.</p> |
