Appts. for determination of a polar ray on a figure comprises the means to generate an 'index' code, means to modify the diameter of the index circle, means to simultaneously observe the figure and the index and means to measure the diameter of the index circle. The observation is effected by relative movement of the index image and the image of the support material of the figure so as to superimpose them. The amt. of displacement to superimpose the images may be used to measure the diameter of the image. Appts. is used for determn. of antibiograms of antibiotics by measuring the dia. of the growth inhibition zone when a circular pastille impregnated with antibiotic is placed at the centre of a Petri dish contg. a nutritive medium seeded with a microorganism.
