PURPOSE:To enable measurement with high accuracy and quick response without a dead zone to the head of a strip steel or the like, by combining the calculation of integration mean value of measured values from the time of beginning of the measurement with the calculation of displacement mean value when measuring the thickness of the strip steel or the like by utilizing radiation or the like. CONSTITUTION:A reference time generating section of a calculation and processing circuit is set at 0.1s. An average time number setting unit 22 is set at 0.4s. When a strip steel is brought to a measuring position, a strip rush-in signal generator 18 supplies a signal to a pulse counter 20 so that counting is performed for a time (a), namely, 0.1s. After the time of 0.1s, a counted value is transferred into a data memory 21. Such operation is repeated. On other hand, a mean average calculator 23 computes integration averages b1-b4 for a time of 0.4s, namely, until fourth data are counted. When a time of 0.5s has elapsed, namely, fifth counting is completed, the second, third, fourth and fifth counted values are picked out with a displacement average b4' at every time of 0.1s. Such operation is repeated until the strip is taken out. A thickness meter with high accuracy and quick response without a dead zone to the head of the strip is thus obtained. |
