<p>Metamagnetic materials have the characteristics of changing to a low reluctance, or ferromagnetic state, when a critical value of field strength is reached. They can therefore be employed as switches in magnetic circuits. By employing a metamagnetic component in conjunction with a permanent magnet, and adding a control winding to reduce the field strength below the critical value the possibility of making sensitive relays or similar devices is achieved.</p> |
